Leach gave a presentation concerning the complex interaction between the First Amendment speech rights of students, staff, and board members on one hand, and the obligation of school districts to protect their students and to keep their schools functioning in an efficient manner on the other.  This area of the law is deeply nuanced and fact-specific and is also rapidly developing, given the increased use of social media by students, teachers, parents, board members, etc.
